Cookies and storage technologies
Last updated 9 October 2026 · Version 2026-10
Short version: we only use cookies that the site needs to work. We don’t use analytics, advertising or social media tracking, and we don’t let third parties set cookies on our site.
1. What these technologies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels and device fingerprinting. UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025) calls these “storage and access technologies” and the same rules apply to all of them.
2. The cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| dd_session | Keeps you signed in to your DropDash account securely. Set only when you sign in. | Strictly necessary, first-party, HTTP-only | Until you sign out, or up to 14 days |
| dd_cookie_ack | Remembers that you have seen our cookie notice, so we don't show it on every page. | Strictly necessary / preference, first-party | 12 months |
When you use the driver app, it may ask your browser for permission to use your location (to check you in) and camera (for photos). These are browser permissions, not cookies, and you can withdraw them in your browser settings at any time.
3. Why we don't ask for consent
The law requires consent for storage and access technologies unless they are strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for. Both of our cookies fall within that exemption, so we tell you about them rather than ask permission.
The ICO’s guidance on storage and access technologies, finalised in 2026, also allows some low-risk uses — such as first-party analytics used only to produce statistics, and remembering preferences — without consent, as long as users get clear information and a simple way to opt out. Third-party analytics, advertising pixels and cross-site tracking still need opt-in consent. We don’t currently use any of these.
4. Your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block dd_session you won’t be able to sign in. If you delete dd_cookie_ack, you’ll simply see the notice again.
5. If this changes
If we ever add analytics or other non-essential technologies, we will update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before anything is set — with an option to refuse that is as easy as accepting.
